Build a Raft

Through Abraham we inherit the Sumerian Flood Story, retold and revised until God told Noah to take two of every animal onto his ark. Early versions had the god Enlil flood the world and Enki help the protagonist Ziusudra build a raft to save his relatives, and then craftsmen, and then “all the beasts and animals of the field”. The Old Testament overflows with references to a pantheon of lesser gods or counter-gods, in God’s assemblies and opposition against him.
